Police step up stops for 'Click It or Ticket'

Essex Police and Fire

ESSEX¬ — Police made several traffic stops, but made no arrests, Tuesday and yesterday morning.

The stops were made as part of the "Click It or Ticket It" campaign. The Essex Police Department, partnering with Massachusetts State Police, won a grant to make the extra enforcement stops possible.

Although drivers can't be pulled over for simply failing to buckle up, they and their passengers should be aware that, if stopped by police for some other infraction, they will be ticketed if they aren't wearing seat belts.

The campaign to crack down on all motorists not wearing seat belts will continue through Friday in Essex, according to Officer Rob Gilardi.

In other news from the police and fire logs:

A truck took down the sign post at the intersection of Western Avenue and Main Street at 9:13 a.m. Tuesday.

At 4:02 p.m., the rescue squad answered a call for mutual aid in Manchester.

The woman had purchased $50 worth of goods on eBay from a former Ipswich resident, who has since moved to Florida, and paid half of the purchase price. She was concerned she would be charged with theft; police advised her to send a check for what she owed to eBay.

Police received a report of two dogs causing traffic problems on John Wise Avenue at 11:44 a.m. yesterday. The dogs were herded into a garage, and animal control was notified.
