Essex board reins in Farm music

After a public hearing that took about three hours — and drew a crowd of about 80 people to the Essex Elementary School last night — the Essex selectmen have tightened the musical reins on The Farm Bar & Grille.

The selectmen ordered the Western Avenue establishment to limit its music entertainment to just Fridays and Saturdays, and ordered that the music be shut down at midnight, both modifications to the Farm's entertainment license. The Farm's license had allowed the restaurant to have live and recorded music Monday through Saturday, with the music running until 12:45 a.m.

Last night's public hearing was called by the selectmen to look into a potential "renewal, modification, suspension or revocation" of the Western Avenue establishment's entertainment license, which has been at the center of a rash of noise complaints.
