Essex Police/Fire: Drivers escape injury in Essex crash

ESSEX — Two cars that were both heading west on Eastern Avenue collided at 4:12 p.m. Monday.

But while both cars sustained significant damage and had to be towed, no injuries were reported.

Police said the accident occurred when the first car attempted to make a U-turn and the second did not stop in time.

An unattended fire on Western Avenue was extinguished by Essex firefighters at 4:35 p.m. Monday. The permit allowing for a controlled burn at the location was revoked, police said.

A caller contacted police to report allegedly "suspicious people" at 1:34 a.m. Tuesday at a Spring Street business.

When officers spoke with the people, however, they identified themselves as Verizon employees removing equipment from the building.

At 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Essex police assisted Manchester police in dealing with a group of underage drinkers who had run from police.

A brush fire was reported at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday on Pickering Street. But while there were several small fires that seemed to be out of control, the Fire Department determined that the fires were lawful and no action was taken.
