Essex Police/Fire: Stolen Sturbridge items retrieved in Essex

ESSEX — Antique items reportedly stolen in Sturbridge weeks ago were retrieved Sunday at 11:09 a.m., Essex police said.

The Sturbridge Police Department had contacted Essex police to ask for help with an investigation into a case involving antiques reportedly stolen in that Central Massachusetts community.

The items, police said, were sold to an unidentified business on Main Street, but were held at the Essex police station pending further investigation.

Local police emphasized that the Essex business was not tied to any allegations of wrongdoing.

Overcrowding at the Farm Bar and Grill on Western Avenue at 1:45 p.m. drew police and firefighter response on Sunday to handle traffic during the Bikini and Speedo Dodgeball tournament.

Officers responded to a 1:30 a.m. report of a barking dog on Main Street. They arrived and contacted the owner, who let his dog inside.

Police responded to a Saturday afternoon report of illegal dumping on Southern Avenue at 12:09 p.m. Officers, however, did not find anything when they responded.

Police are investigating the theft of a wallet from a Main Street business Saturday at 3:48 p.m.

Officers declined to name the business, and said the matter was still under investigation.
