Gloucester Police/Fire: Detective hurt in fall while pursuing drug suspect

A detective who witnessed an alleged drug deal on Railroad Avenue fell while chasing one of the suspects and injured his arm, police said Wednesday.

According to the police report, Detective Jeremiah Nicastro was conducting surveillance at the MBTA commuter rail station on Railroad Avenue at 10 a.m. Wednesday when he saw Jennifer Goudreault, 42, of Andover Street in Danvers, and Robert Tocco, 40, of Washington Street in Gloucester, allegedly exchange money for drugs.

When Nicastro approached them and called for back up, Tocco began fiddling with his pockets and then ran.

Nicastro chased after him, and fell while running across the street. Nicastro noticed Tocco swallowing the pills he had been handed, and Tocco was later taken to the hospital to be treated for a drug overdose.

Goudreault was arrested on a charge of possession of a Class B substance with the intent to distribute it, and Tocco was arrested on charges of possession of a Class B substance, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

A fight between a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old escalated at O'Maley Middle School on Wednesday, with the mothers of both boys getting involved and the mother of the 15-year-old being asked to stay off of campus unless she has an appointment, police said.

According to the identifications on the police report, the 15-year-old is the same Gloucester youth who was charged with assault and was involved in a third fight, all in January. The names of both youths, however, are being withheld because they are juveniles.

Heather Donlan, 40, of Curwin Circle in Lynn, was arrested at 8:43 a.m. Wednesday on three outstanding warrants. Police did not specify the charges on the warrants.

A Grove Street man was reported dumping cat litter onto Grove Street from a second-floor apartment.

When officers spoke to him at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the man agreed to stop dumping the litter in the street and instead throw it into a garbage bag.
