Town Talk: Wanted: volunteers for Manchester boar ds

Town Talk

The Manchester Board of Selectmen are reaching out for a few good residents to step up and serve on some of the community’s boards and committees.

The selectmen are looking for volunteers to fill vacancies on the Zoning Board of Appeals, Community Preservation Committee, Conservation Commission, Council on Aging, Board of Health, the July 4th Committee, the MBTA Advisory Board, and the North Shore HOME Consortium.

Selectmen said volunteers might find experience in the fields helpful, but it is not a requirement to serve.

The time commitments vary from board to board. Some boards and committees require bi-weekly commitments of time and some far less. Those with questions about volunteering should contact the Selectmen’s Office at 978-526-2000.

People interested in applying should complete a Committee Volunteer Application form and mail it to the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall, 10 Central Street; or fax to 978-526-2001; or e-mail to heiseye@manchester.ma.us.

The committee volunteer application form can be found on the selectmen’s page of the town’s website at www.manchester.ma.us.

Deadline for Essex youth triathlon

The registration deadline for the fourth Annual Essex Youth Triathlon is fast approaching. The town asks that participants register by Wednesday for the Aug. 11 event, in order to avoid a late registration fee.

The event, for participants ages 5 to 15, was launched by the Essex Board of Health to encourage physical activity as a lifelong habit in the fight against childhood and adult obesity.

Anyone who would like to help with the event by donating time, money or products, should contact the town’s Board of Health at boh@essexma.org or 978 768-7614.

Marjorie Nesin can be reached at 978-283-7000, x3451, or at mnesin@gloucestertimes.com.
