---- — Tommy Heinsohn, the current Boston Celtics TV commentator and a longtime Celtics’ player and later coach, addressed the Rockport Rotary Club in a speech Thursday at noon in the Grand Cafe of the Emerson Inn by the Sea.

Heinsohn, showed Rockport an artsy side last summer when he displayed his paintings at The Mosher Gallery in Rockport.

Thursday, Heinsohn stuck to sports, speaking about the components of the Celtics dynasty, what made the team great in the past, and what looms ahead for the team in 2012-2013, according to new member, Rockport schools Superintendent Robert Liebow.

Liebow became a member of the Rockport Rotary at Thursday’s meeting.

Town Assessors’ work rewarded

Rockport Assistant Town Assessor Diane Lashua received a $500 scholarship, which will pay for a class at the University of Massachusetts this summer.

Lashua was awarded the scholarship as a result of diligent work, Town Administrator Linda Sanders said Tuesday at a selectmen’s meeting.

The Recreation Department has begun its second session of youth and adult tennis lessons, but it is not too late to join.

The new session began Monday and will run through Aug. 17. Lesson times and prices vary.

Old Sloop Fair’s finale

The Old Sloop Fair at the First Congregational Church of Rockport will conclude with a giant yard sale today.

The yard sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Among the items that can be found at the yard sale are furniture, toys and sporting goods, kitchen and dining ware, tools, electronics, art, and items that were overlooked at last weekend’s silent auction.

Proceeds from the fair will go toward the church’s operating expenses and the restoration and preservation of the church’s buildings. A project to restore the roof, siding, and windows of the sanctuary building is in progress, financed in part by a Rockport Community Preservation Act grant and by contributions from parishioners and townspeople.
