Prospect Street man faces lewdness charge

Gloucester Police/Fire

Gloucester police charged a 42-year-old Prospect Street man with open and gross lewdness, after he allegedly exposed himself to a woman who was staying at his home Wednesday about 3:47 a.m., according to police.

The woman told police she was sleeping in a spare room at the home, and awoke to the suspect, Rocco J. Tobin, standing with his genitals close to her face, police said.

Tobin told police he always sleeps nude and had walked through the room to use the bathroom, still nude, when the woman started talking to him. He said he crouched behind the arm of the sofa to cover himself, leading to the woman punching him in the face multiple times, he said.

The woman admitted to police she had punched the man in the face, but she said she punched him after he refused to move his genitals away from her.

When police arrested Tobin, officers reported finding a 6-ounce pack of synthetic marijuana inside of Tobin’s sock, police said. According to police, Tobin admitted to having smoked some of the substance that night.
