Talk of the Times: Schwoyer honored for her Inspiration

Gloucester's own Nancy Schwoyer, a cofounder of Wellspring House, will be honored as a "Mother of Inspiration" next month, alongside Sister Margaret Leonard, who works with homeless families in Roxbury and the Red Sox Foundation, which funds charitable needs across New England.

Schwoyer will be honored at The Legends Among Us gala on April 10 in Boston for her work at Wellspring and helping to found One Family Scholars Program in Boston, a nonprofit devoted to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts.

Grammy Award-winning artist John Legend will perform at the gala.

This year is the inaugural year for the Legends Among Us award, which honors heroes who change lives and transform society.

Tickets for the event, which will be held at the Copley Hotel in Boston, are $195 for the general reception and dinner, $250 for a VIP ticket and reception with singer Legend. Tickets can be purchased at www.onefamilyinc.org.

Cape Ann TV holds open house

Cape Ann TV, community cable channels 12 and 67, is holding an open house Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. to show off its newly renovated facility, located at 38 Blackburn Park. The site will be open for tours at that time.

A special video presentation will showcase the work of public access producers and volunteers. A short, informational program about Cape Ann TV will take place at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to this free event.

A number of musicians affiliated with the local station will add to the festivities, including jazz by Ed Carfano and the musicians of his Channel 12 program "Stardust;" the acoustic music of Daisy Nell and Capt. Stan with their band, Crabgrass; and Henri Smith, producer of "N'Awlins East," who will perform as part of a jazz trio.

The corporation is the new, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that took over operations in August of the public access television station that serves the city of Gloucester and the towns of Rockport, Essex, and Manchester.

There will be the opening of an art exhibit by members of seARTS, curated by Mary Beth Bainbridge, of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. The exhibit will run through the end of April. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

Those interested in exhibiting at CATV or seeking more information about the group, may call 978-281-2443.
