Sandra Bullock unhurt after head-on collision in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER — Movie star Sandra Bullock and her husband were unhurt after a drunken driver slammed head-on into their vehicle Friday night on East Main Street, by the East Gloucester Laundromat, police said.

Bullock is in the Cape Ann area filming the Disney movie "The Proposal" with Ryan Reynolds.

The actress and her husband, Jesse James of "Monster Garage," were in a rented black sports-utility vehicle being driven by Mark Hussey, 54, of Londonderry, N.H., when a station wagon crossed the center line and crashed into them, said Gloucester police Sgt. Chris Cook.

"It was actually a really minor accident," Cook said.

Police arrested the other driver, Lucille P. Gatchell, 64, of 19 Starknaught Heights, Gloucester, and charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay in marked lanes, according to the police report.

Gatchell, who was also unhurt, registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, Cook said.

She was released on personal recognizance yesterday and will be arraigned Tuesday in Gloucester District Court.
