Essex police/fire

ESSEX — Police stopped a car at 6:19 a.m. Monday on John Wise Avenue. The driver, Gloucester resident Michael Lorenzana, 31, of Prospect Street, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

r Main Street resident William Paige, 40, was arrested Monday at 9:27 a.m. on a charge he violated parole. He is being held without bail at Middleton Jail.

r A power surge on Martin Street led to a brief outage Monday at 7:25 p.m. The outage caused a number of false burglar alarms at businesses on the street. Police are not aware of what caused the power surge.

r On Southern Avenue a resident called police at 12:06 p.m. yesterday to report what he believed to be a black widow spider in his home Monday. Animal control was notified and the spider was dealt with. police had no more information.
