The Manchester Board of Health will host a flu clinic for Manchester residents age 65 and older on from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at American Legion Hall.
Seniors should bring their Medicare B card and their current Medicare HMO plan card. They should also wear a loose-fitting or short-sleeved garment.
People who are homebound and are not receiving VNA services are eligible for a free home visit and should call the town's public health nurse at 978-526-7385 to schedule one.
Flu clinics for younger residents will be planned and posted when more vaccine is received, probably later this month or early November.
Jay Severin speaks to local Republicans
Radio talk show host and political analyst Jay Severin addressed a full crowd at the Manchester Republican Town Committee's Chili-Chowder event on Sept. 27.
He hosts a talk show on WTKK (FM 96.9) in Boston from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Severin spoke about U.S. Sen. John McCain's rise to prominence with little challenge from the media and questioned the choice of Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin as a vice presidential running mate. State Rep. Brad Hill, R-Ipswich, whose district includes Manchester, and state Sen. Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, spoke about the state's financial affairs, and Tarr discussed the need to tighten spending.
The Republican Town Committee also raised enough money to continue funding its annual scholarship for Manchester Essex Regional High School seniors who demonstrate community involvement and leadership.
Diversity Alliance hosts Kindness Week
The Diversity Alliance at Manchester Essex Regional High School recently wrapped up Kindness Week.
Each teacher and staff member was given kindness cards to fill out and give to students who performed random acts of kindness.
"It might be a small thing, but it goes a long way," said assistant principal Paul Murphy, who hopes kindness will continue throughout the year.
The Diversity Alliance is a group of students who promote tolerance and take on social causes.
