Council on Aging Friends' auction set for Thursday

Gloucester's Friends of the Council on Aging are hoping for a banner "harvest" this week — with the local business community providing a banner crop of goods and services.

The "harvest" is the Friends' third annual Business to Business Harvest Auction. The goods and services auction is slated for Thursday from 5 to 7:30 at the Rose Baker Senior Center at the corner of Rogers Street and Manuel F. Lewis Street. The event will also feature a 4:30 p.m. preview of the items up for bid.

Among the "goods and services" already confirmed for the auction block will be services of two personal trainers, a season of snowplowing services, 18 holes of golf at the Cape Ann Golf Club, use of the function room at The Elks at Bass Rocks, and sports tickets — including "great seats" to a Celtics' game and tickets to a NASCAR race at Loudon, N.H., according to Friends' program organizer Tony Corrao of Precision Roofing.

All proceeds from the harvest will go to support a wide variety of programs, services and activities for local seniors and their families. State Sen. Bruce Tarr will serve as auctioneer for the event.

Tickets to the auction are priced at $20 per person, and admission includes a buffet of finger sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, Italian sausage and Desserts by Design,

Anyone seeking more information on the event, anyone seeking tickets or anyone willing to donate and items and/or service for the harvest may contact Corrao at 978-281-3340 or Lucia Sheehan at 978-281-9765.
