Crash victim driven, not flown, to hospital

MANCHESTER — A man was almost flown to the hospital after his car went off Route 128 northbound in Manchester and rolled over Tuesday afternoon, according to Massachusetts state police.

State police received numerous calls around 4:10 p.m. reporting that a 1993 Mercury Cougar had gone off the road, into the woods, and rolled over. The accident occurred just north of School Street, and state and Manchester police responded.

The driver, Stanley Klosowski, 60, of 65 Barstow St., Salem, was transported to Beverly Hospital by ambulance with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

A Medflight had been requested but was ultimately canceled. Route 128 was shut down for a few minutes in preparation for a landing but reopened after the cancellation.

Klosowski was transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. A hospital spokesman said he was in fair condition last night.

State police are investigating the accident.
