Gloucester Police/Fire

Arrests

Steven J. Thayer, 19, no known address, was arrested on four warrants and on charges of marijuana possession at 8:47 p.m. Sunday after police received a tip Thayer was walking on Main Street.

Patrolman Jeremiah Nicastro was instructed by Lt. Jerry Cook to put a sweatshirt on to cover his uniform and walk on Main Street in an attempt to spot Thayer. Nicastro spotted Thayer and notified backup officers to meet him in front of Cameron's. Nicastro walked across the street like he was going to enter Cameron's and grabbed Thayer by the arms. Thayer did not run and was cooperative, Nicastro wrote in his report.

Thayer had been wanted on warrants for receiving stolen property, shoplifting, unarmed robbery, assault and batterys, and having an uninsured trailer and unregistered motor vehicle. He had run from police several times since the warrants were issued. After arresting Thayer, Nicastro found a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, and Thayer was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Incidents

Yesterday, a man reported several construction vehicles at the site of the future Gloucester Crossing shopping center had been vandalized sometime over the weekend.

The windshield and a side window of a CAT loader were broken, as were windows of a CAT dozer and CAT excavator. The construction trailer was also vandalized; the blocks were removed from its tires and it was picked up and moved towards a hill.

The trailer is located 25 feet from a home on Perkins Street where there is no fence to prevent entry to the site; according to the police report, there was once an orange snow fence blocking entry to the site at the location, but it too had been vandalized in the past. Gloucester detectives are investigating.

Police responded to the Dunkin' Donuts on Washington Street at 11:06 p.m. Sunday after a Washington Street man called police to report he was assaulted.

The man was assaulted after confronting unknown suspects who threw ice balls at his girlfriend's car near Jim's Bagels on Railroad Avenue. The man suffered "several small cuts on his face and was covered in blood" but refused medical treatment.

The victim told police three suspects jumped into a white Toyota — possibly a Camry.

A Friend Street woman reported some of her windows were broken by BB gun pellets yesterday morning.

The woman said she heard "plinking" noises outside her apartment on Christmas morning; when she went outside to investigate, she noticed two children in the yard next door with BB guns. She asked the kids to be careful and went back inside.

Yesterday morning, she noticed two living room windows had been struck by BB gun pellets. The pellets were found in the window sill. She also noticed a back porch light cover was also damaged. Her neighbor said he purchased three Easy Rider Pump Action BB guns for his children for Christmas. The children told police that, during target practice, it was possible some of the pellets may have struck their neighbor's apartment. The father agreed to turn the guns over to police and pay for the damage.

A Willow Street woman reported at 12:26 a.m. yesterday that her car was vandalized; a sharp object had been used to put scratches on the vehicle's passenger side doors. The driver's side mirror was also broken.

A Stanwood Avenue resident reported a case of debit card fraud at 8:58 a.m. yesterday. The woman's First National Bank of Ipswich debit card was used in Belgium to purchase an online Web site name for $254.28.

Rescuers transported a Starknaught Heights woman to Addison Gilbert Hospital at 6:31 p.m. Sunday and an Emily Lane woman to Beverly Hospital at 8:27 p.m. Sunday.
