A 21-year-old Rockport resident and a 16-year-old female student at Rockport High School were airlifted to a Boston hospital this morning after they and another Rockport High student were injured in a one-car crash on Squam Road.
According the Rockport police, a car carrying the three young people slammed into a tree in the area of 25 Squam Road at 6:30 a.m. All three of the occupants — 21-year-old Paul Michel of Rockport, a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl — were initially taken to Beverly Hospital on diversion from Addison Gilbert Hospital, said Rockport Police Sgt. Mark Schmink. Michel and the girl were then transferred to Boston. The identities of the teens in the car were not released.
Schmink said that there were no skid marks on the road, and that the car appeared to hit the tree head-on. He added that police are still investigating the crash.
Schmink said police are also speaking with school officials, and are trying to piece together "the circumstances prior to the crash."
The Rockport High School prom was held last night, but Schmink said police have not ascertained whether any of those in the car had been to that event.
