---- — ROCKPORT — Police told a Canadian backpacker he cannot sleep on Rockport’s beaches at night, after receiving a report of the man sleeping on Back Beach Monday morning about 7:30 a.m.

Officers responded to the call, located the man, and told him to move on, but there were no charges filed.

Police dispatched the Rockport Fire Department to Norwood Avenue to investigate a gas smell reported by a resident Monday about 8:30 p.m., according to police. Firefighters, however, reported no danger.

Police quieted Sandy Bay Estates residents after receiving a noise complaint and speaking to the residents Monday about 10:16 p.m., according to police.
