Essex Police/Fire: Cogswell Road vandalism under investigation

ESSEX — A Cogswell Road resident reported vandalism to the property Monday about 1:52 p.m., according to police.

Police went to the home and confirmed that a section of the porch had been pushed inward, and a set of hinges were removed from a wooden shed and the door was forced in, according to police. Officers are investigating.

A Southern Avenue resident reported that a cat was stolen from her home Monday about 1:06 p.m., according to police.

When officers arrived, however, they found the cat inside the residence, police said.

Police responded to a Belcher Street residence to check on the house after an alarm sounded Monday about 5:47 p.m., but found the alarm proved to be faulty, according to police.

Police dispatched firefighters to a Western Avenue residence to check on an alarm, which turned out was activated by a cooking accident Monday about 6:42 p.m., according to police. Police said everything at the residence was OK.

A person brought an injured owl into the police station Monday about 8:20 p.m.

The town’s animal control officer took care of the injured bird, according to police.
