ESSEX — Police responded to an Island Road residence’s fire alarm sounding Thursday about 1:20 p.m. The alarm turned out to be false, police said.

Police received a report of an unregistered tractor-type machine driving down Western Avenue on Thursday about 4:20 p.m. But, when police arrived to check the area, the vehicle was gone.
