The Page 1 Friday story headlined "State fish deputy seeks cod crackdown," misreported the length of a fathom as equal to 3 feet.
In fact, a fathom is equal to 6 feet in length, so the proposal to ban gillnet fishing in depths less than 30 fathoms would bar gillnetting in less than 180 feet of water.
