Striding with pride

Nearly three dozen local nonprofit agencies and school based organizations joined forces for the 26th time Sunday, making their way to and from Stage Fort Park through Gloucester’s downtown streets in the annual Pride Stride benefit walk.

The five-mile loop walk, blessed with brilliant weather Sunday, drew hundreds of participants, all of whom marched for pledges to a wide range of nonprofits, from Cape Ann Animal Aid and The Open Door food pantry and service agency to groups like the J.J. Nicastro Foundation, parent-teacher organizations from all five Gloucester elementary schools and St. Ann School, and Gloucester High School’s acclaimed concert jazz band, The Docksiders.

The event, which surpassed the $1 million mark last year in terms of dollars raised over the Pride Stride’s long history, culminated in a post-walk celebration at Stage Fort Park.

Pride Stride’s principal sponsors this year included Gorton’s, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Sovereign Bank, TDM marketing, First Ipswich Bank, the McNiff Companies, and Cape Ann Photography, whose owner, David Stotzer, is one of the Pride Stride organizers.
