---- — MANCHESTER — Police said the commuter rail crossing gates on Railroad Avenue began malfunctioning throughout the day Sunday.

Police said a crew from the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority arrived to fix the problem.

Saturday around 8:30 p.m., police said a resident of Old Essex Road was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester.
