---- — The Fort Community Alliance, the citizens’ group that is active in addressing a number of Fort neighborhood and Gloucester marine harborfront issues including the planned construction of a hotel on Pavilion Beach and Commercial Street, is hosting a fundraiser tonight to salute the building that has long stood on the proposed hotel site.
Titled “A Tribute to the Birdseye,” the event, set for tonight from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. at The Elks at Bass Rocks, will include live music and dancing to the band Batsu, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle, with light fare and a cash bar.
The auction will include a number of works donated by local artists that feature the Birdseye Building, the site of the hotel project being proposed by Beauport Gloucester LLC, headed by New Balance owner Jim Davis and Cruiseport Gloucester’s Sheree DeLorenzo.
The Alliance has opposed both the hotel overlay zone that was put in place by the City Council in June, and the project itself. The council approved its final decision in favor of the project earlier this week, but the decision also sets the stage for potential appeals.
Tickets for tonight’s event are priced at $10.
