Town Talk: Upcoming school budget meetings

---- — With meetings for the Manchester Essex Regional School District budget coming up next week, public involvement is lacking. During the last meeting, the only people in the largely empty auditorium were mostly school employees or officials from Manchester or Essex.

There was little involvement from anyone outside the school system or anyone who does not hold a title in Manchester or Essex.

These are important issues and district officials are doing the best they can to inform the public of what options are on the table and where money is being allocated throughout the district.

All the while, school officials are beginning their search for a new principal and educational leaders for the Manchester Essex Regional High School.

The next meeting is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Essex Elementary School. where town boards and school officials will share updated budget information.

The adoption of the budget is set to happen during a public forum on Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. at Manchester Essex Regional High School.

Flu clinics posted

Addison Gilbert Hospital has proven its worth during the flu season. While the Manchester website notes no more flu clinics will be held in town, health officials have acknowledged an influx of calls about flu-related matters. On its website, Essex posted the next flu clinic dates at the Gloucester hospital. Residents of both towns can receive a vaccine at the next flu clinic, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 9 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafe at AGH, 298 Washington St., Gloucester.

Manchester moves trash schedule

Curbside rubbish and recycle collection in Manchester will be one day late because of the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday, Jan. 21. Monday’s collection will take place Tuesday, Jan. 22, and Tuesday’s collection will be Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Dump hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
