---- — More than 250 visitors purchased some 300 decorated buoys from Gloucester’s Lobster Trap Christmas Tree Saturday night, contributing roughly $5,000 to Cape Ann Art Haven in the process, Art Haven Director Mary Ann DeLouise said Monday.
The occasion was the fifth annual lobster trap tree buoy auction, held at Cruiseport Gloucester. And the event once again served as a cap to the holiday season project through which the Art Haven coordinates a number of workshops for children and adults alike to hand-paint the buoys that adorn the tree each year.
State Sen. Bruce Tarr served as auctioneer — and made a special community service presentation to David Brooks, an Art Haven founder who coordinated the building of the tree and the buoy decorating project.
“The evening was a lot of fun — the kids had a ball,” said DeLouise.
The event is one of Cape Ann Art Haven’s chief annual fundraisers.
