'Messy' art has its night in Essex tonight

---- — ESSEX — Even the most avid artists would admit that painting and other works can be a messy game.

Tonight, for a $5 participation fee, everyone across Cape Ann is invited to take place in the fourth annual Messy Art Night.

Essex Elementary and the Essex Parent Teacher Organization has teamed up to create the event, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Essex Elementary School on 12 Story St.

Over a dozen local artists will demonstrate their crafts, while also hosting a make-your-own messy art project. Some formats included are print making, painting, mixed media art, pottery, photography and others.

“We are eagerly looking forward to Messy Art Night,” said Essex PTO president Diane Corrao. “This unique event has quickly become one of our most popular, most well attended events of the year.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring a smock or to wear old clothes. Everyone is welcome and health snacks will be sold.

A large portion of the PTO budget, raised through an annual appeal and monthly events, are all designed to enrich programs within Essex schools.
