Gloucester District Court: Charges of assault against two dismissed

Two Gloucester residents no longer face a charge of assault after appearing in Gloucester District Court on Friday.

Serena Hopkinson, 21, of Millet Street had been arrested last March after she was accused of grabbing a 14-year-old girl by the hair, then punching the girl in the head three times while wearing a large ring, according to a police report.

Judge Joseph Jennings dismissed the charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon brought against her at the commonwealth’s request Friday.

A charge of assault and battery against Dennis Bryant, a 52-year-old Western Avenue man, was dismissed for failure to prosecute at a court trial Friday.

Bryant had been arrested after he was accused of hitting a woman, then throwing the naked woman onto a balcony, then locking the home’s glass door to keep her there.

A driver accused of hitting a parked car in a supermarket parking lot and driving away was fined $50 in Gloucester District Court on Friday.

Elizabeth Valovic, 44, of Forest Street admitted to sufficient facts on a charge of leaving the scene of property damage before Judge Joseph Jennings. He continued the case without a finding until July, ordered Valovic to pay a $50 assessment and to remain under administrative supervision.

Valovic faced the charge after a September car collision in which she later told police the vehicle she was driving struck a parked car at Stop & Shop in Gloucester and she panicked and left the scene, according to a police report.
