Storm cancellations

With the potential for an historic blizzard arriving Friday morning, a number of groups are already moving to postpone events that had been scheduled tomorrow and this weekend.

In Gloucester:

Schooner Adventure’s History Sharing Program, “Ghosts of Vincent Cove,” scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Rose Baker Center is being postponed again. It is set to take place March 8.

St. Ann School’s “Comedy Night” fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8, at Bass Rocks Golf Club, has been postponed until Friday, March 8.

The boys basketball game, versus Swampscott, on Friday has been canceled. Rescheduled time to be announced.

The Rotary Club Polar Plunge at Long Beach as been moved from Saturday, Feb. 9, to Feb. 23. The selection of Feb. 23 was based on tides, school schedules, and availability of facilities and food providers and preparation.

The Annisquam Village Players have rescheduled Saturday’s talent show. The show will take instead go on on March 23.

Cape Ann Animal Aid’s Winter Ball has been rescheduled from Saturday to Friday, Feb. 22, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Cruiseport Gloucester. All original tickets will be honored on that date. For more information, please call 978-283-6055 x23.

In Rockport:

Schools will have a half day Friday. Middle and High School students will be released at 11 a.m. Elementary pupils will be sent home at noon. The superintendent will decide tonight or early tomorrow morning whether to call a snow day for Friday.

High school basketball games will be played at 5 tonight instead of tomorrow. The boys will play Manchester Essex at Rockport, the girls will play at Manchester Essex Regional High School

Rockport Public Library will be closed Saturday.

The transfer station will be closed Saturday, Feb. 9, and will open Monday, Feb. 11, from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The high school hockey game, vs. Revere in Revere, on Saturday has been canceled. Rescheduled time to be announced.

In Essex:

High school basketball games will be played at 5 tonight instead of tomorrow. The boys will play at Rockport High School, the girls will play at Manchester Essex.

In Manchester:

High school basketball games will be played at 5 tonight instead of tomorrow. The boys will play at Rockport High School, the girls will play at Manchester Essex.

A parking ban goes into effect Friday at 8 a.m.

The Manchester Public Library is canceling the Chinese New Year program and the Friends of the Library Book Donation Drop-off Day, both scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9.

Elsewhere:

Landmark School in Beverly has canceled classes for Friday.

Tomorrow’s Mardi Gras benefit concert for a Cape Ann YMCA teen trip to New Orleans, featuring Charles Neville, a Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, and Gloucester’s Henri Smith and his band at the historic Larcom Theatre in Beverly will now take place at April 6 at 7:30 p.m.

The ACT Test, a curriculum- and standards-based tool that assesses readiness for college, that was scheduled at Austin Preparatory School in Reading for this Saturday has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 16.
