---- — ESSEX — A Gloucester resident was issued a civil citation for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on Tuesday, following a traffic stop at 1 a.m.

Police said the vehicle was initially stopped because of an out-of-date inspection sticker. But when officers approached the car, they could clearly smell marijuana, according to the police report.

Police also found drug paraphernalia in the car. The driver was issued a civil citation for the expired inspection sticker. Police declined to provide the name of the driver.

Police are investigating the theft of a boat trailer that was reported Monday at 3:15 p.m.

According to police, while a John Wise Avenue resident reported the small trailer missing Monday, it may have been missing since last week.

Police notified Ipswich police officers about a report of an erratic operator on Eastern Avenue Monday just before 7 p.m. Police searched the area, but could not locate any erratic operator.

An alarm sounded off on Spring Street just before 2 p.m. on Monday, police said the alarm was set off as an error.
