Gloucester Court: Pair get jail for Thatcher Road break

A Somerville and a Quincy man arrested on Memorial Day for breaking into a Thatcher Road home were sentenced to jail time by Judge Joseph Jennings on Friday in Gloucester District Court.

Mark Gianatasio, 34, of 1325 Warren Ave., Somerville, and John P. Burke, 37, of 517 Hancock St., Quincy, each pleaded guilty to charges of larceny and breaking and entering and were sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail.

Jennings ordered them to serve six months, and suspended the balance for three years. The pair will be on probation until August 2013.

According to police reports, a neighbor notified police that he saw Burke enter the home through a back door and leave with something under his shirt while Gianatasio kept lookout.

The neighbor followed the two men to a car parked on Bass Avenue, where they were intercepted by police, who found a full jewelry box in their possession.

Raymond L. Truche, 54, of 14 Bellview Ave., Gloucester, had his fifth drunken driving offense along with charges of failing to stop for police, driving with a suspended license and drunken driving with a suspended license all dismissed in Gloucester District Court due to the fact that he was indicted and arraigned in Salem Superior Court.

According to police reports, a pickup truck that police later learned was being driven by Truche pulled in front of a cruiser traveling on Washington Street at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday. According to police reports, the vehicle swayed to the right, nearly striking a parked car, and then swerved back over the center line.

Police attempted to pull the vehicle over on Washington Street, but the driver did not stop, turning left on Beacon Street and accelerating speed. The vehicle then turned onto Summer Street and eventually onto Orchard Street, which leads to a dead end. When the truck got to the end of the street, police say Truche exited the vehicle and ran into a backyard, where officers caught up to him.

While being arrested police say Truche said, "I'm going back to jail, you guys don't know my history."

According to police reports, Truche was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol.

Police also referred to Truche as a "habitual traffic offender."

Brian Hale, 24, of 10 Columbia St., Gloucester, was sentenced to 18 months probation after pleading guilty to charges of driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

Hale was arrested last December after a motor vehicle stop on Proctor Street.

Hale also had a charge of providing alcohol to minors dismissed at the request of the commonwealth. The charge stems from an October 2009 incident where police allege that minors were drinking at a party at Hale's home.

A charge of assault and battery against Alexys Hartwell, 21, of 101 Prospect St., Gloucester, was dismissed at the request of the commonwealth. Hartwell was charged in March after an incident with her boyfriend at their Prospect Street home.

Dakota Lewis, 19, of 7 Arthur St., Gloucester, had charges of breaking and entering and receiving stolen property continued without a finding for two years.

Lewis was arrested early Thursday morning after police say he broke into a car on Starknaught Heights. Police found Lewis hiding in a bush with a camera and a GPS device on him.

Lewis also had charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and assault and battery on a police officer continued without a finding for 18 months. Those charges stem from an April incident when police were called to Pleasant Street on reports of a fight. Police found Lewis yelling and screaming when they arrived, and they say he bumped an officer with his chest while resisting arrest.

Gena Cordes, 42, of 11 Fair St., Gloucester, had larceny charges continued without a finding for nine months. Cordes was also ordered to pay $500 in restitution.

Cordes was charged last October after police say she shoplifted a combined $500 worth of makeup from CVS on several occasions.
