2013 Gloucester Schooner Festival Schedule

Saturday, Aug. 31

10 a.m.: Working Waterfront Tour, starts at Fishermen’s Memorial; $5 per person. Sponsored by the Schooner Adventure.

10 a.m to 4 p.m.: Maritime Gloucester Heritage Day, 23 Harbor Loop in downtown Gloucester; a free annual celebration for all. The center’s exhibits and aquarium will be open throughout the day.

Noon to 4 p.m.: U.S. Coast Guard Open House, stop by the station on Harbor Loop to learn all about the Coast Guard’s important role in Gloucester.

4 to 7 p.m.: First Public Lobster Bake, steamed lobster, corn on the cob, and a Virgilio’s roll, all for $12, on the Fitz Henry Lane Park lawn. Listen to Old Cold Tater & Friends make some music. Hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, sodas, spring water, beer and wine. Advance tickets at Maritime Gloucester or at the event.

7 p.m.: Concert on the Boulevard, featuring the band “Full Circle.”

7:30 p.m.: Parade of Lights — Participating boats light the harbor for a gala night for one and all

9:15 p.m.: Fireworks display over Gloucester Harbor following Parade of Lights.

Sunday, Sept. 1

8:30 a.m.: Skippers Meeting, required for all schooners sailing in the Mayor’s Race. Meet at Solomon Jacobs Park, adjacent to the U.S. Coast Guard Station on Harbor Loop.

10:30 a.m. to noon.: Parade of Sail, as schooners proceed from Inner Harbor,past the Fishermen’s Memorial on Stacy Boulevard, to the race starting area off Eastern Point.

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Shuttle bus to Eastern Point Light Gate (Eastern Point Boulevard at Farrington Avenue) to watch the start of the Mayor’s Race. Free of charge, courtesy of CATA (Cape Ann Transportation Authority).

Noon to 4 p.m., U.S. Coast Guard Station Open House, stop by the station on Harbor Loop to learn all about the Coast Guard and its important role in Gloucester.

1 p.m.: Start of Mayor’s Race for the Esperanto Cup, Ned Cameron Trophy and Betty Ramsey Trophy off Eastern Point.

6 to 8 p.m.: Reception and awards ceremony,for contestants and invited guests.
