Young Friends, Patrons meet at Beauport

The supporters of two historic homes, one in Gloucester, the other in Boston, met for a special event recently.

Members of Historic New England’s Young Friends and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Young Patrons gathered Aug. 22 for a special evening at Historic New England’s Beauport, Sleeper-McCann House (1907) on Eastern Point.

The group enjoyed tours of this historic 56-room summer home of collector and interior designer Henry Davis Sleeper, cocktails on the terrace, a brief history on the connection between Sleeper and Isabella Stewart Gardner, and a beautiful sunset over the harbor.

Gardner was one of the people Sleeper brought with him in 1907 when he salvaged material from the derelict First Period William Cogswell house on Main Street in Essex to reuse in decorating the Cogswell and Green Dining rooms at Beauport.

Members of the Young Friends, ages 21 to 50, of Historic New England enjoy invitations to special tours, receptions, and other events like this throughout the year.

Visit for more information about Young Friends, Beauport, and details on future events.
