Rockport Rambles: Librarian Knight retiring after 19 years

---- — For the last 19 years, Jane Knight has filled the shelves of the junior department with materials of interest to all ages: bright picture books for young children, novels and movies for those a bit older, and books on parenting for their folks.

The story hours, parties, and entertaining programs that she has arranged have fostered an interest in reading in children from preschool through the elementary grades. Summer reading programs have encouraged youngsters to maintain their reading skills when they were not in school.

Now, on Sept. 19, Jane Knight will retire from the Rockport Public Library, with a reception to be held in her honor next Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Brenner Friends Room.

Parents, children, and the general public are welcome. Children and adults are invited to express their appreciation and best wishes in written notes or drawings that will be compiled into a remembrance book.

Special pages for children’s messages may be picked up in the library’s junior department. Submissions for the remembrance book may be dropped off at the main desk in the library or mailed by Monday to Rockport Public Library, Attn: Thank you Jane, 17 School St., Rockport, MA 01966.
