MANCHESTER — A local breast cancer activist, Susan Wadia-Ells, has launched a campaign to raise $9,999 to get the word out about preventing breast cancer before it starts.
Wadia-Ells, founding director of the nonprofit National Breast Cancer Prevention Project, said she wants to teach women seven healthy, significant and inexpensive ways to stop breast cancer —in a paperback called “Busting Breast Cancer: 7 Ways”.
She has a launched a campaign on indiegogo.com to raise the almost $10,000 she needs to publish her paperback. She said she will spend $3,500 on the final editing and processing, $5,000 on print production, and about $1,000 on campaign administration.
“This basic budget enables us to print, ship 1,000 paperback books,” Wadia-Ells said. “Further funding enables us to do a national advertising campaign.”
Indiegogo.com is an international crowd-funding website through which anyone set a financial goal and ask for donations or pledges to finance a creative project. As a nonprofit, her campaign is set up to as “Flexible Funding,” meaning she will be able to keep the money raised, even if the goal is not met. The campaign runs until 11:59 p.m. Oct. 10. Contributions are tax-deductible.
