ROCKPORT— Manguito, a Latin American ensemble, will perform a free community concert Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society at 4 Cleaves St.
The ensemble will play joyful music of Latin America, including the rumba, bomba, plena, and Dominican merengue.
Five Latin American musicians will take students on an interactive musical tour of the Caribbean as they play the rhythms of Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic on a variety of musical instruments. Percussion students from Rockport Public Schools will join the ensemble for selected works, according to a press release.
The musicians from Manguito will take part in a two-day residency in Rockport and Gloucester schools.
The concert is being presented by Rockport Music, which has a mission that includes youth education and community outreach.
"It's really unique and we're proud of what our educational outreach committee has established," said spokesman Gregg Sorensen.
There is general admission seating and no reservations required for the concert.
