A former assistant principal and current dean of academic affairs at Gloucester High School is one of two finalists in Wakefield's search for a new middle school principal.
Gloucester's Mark Bedrosian and Richard Codwell, principal of the Thurgood Marshall School in Lynn, are vying to become principal of Wakefield's Galvin Middle School, Wakefield school officials have announced.
Bedrosian has served in the Gloucester Public Schools since 1996 as both a high and middle school teacher, and as an administrator.
Applying for the principal's spot, he said Tuesday, is a natural step.
"I've been in a middle position and its a natural progression to look to lead a school," Bedrosian said.
He said the local school community has been supportive of his pursuits.
Bedrosian has served as assistant principal at O'Maley Middle School and at Gloucester High School, where he also previously served as an assistant football coach.
He said he'd like to lead a middle school, adding that he enjoys working with kids of middle school age, and the state's education framework also ties the middle school ever closer to the high school.
"The relationship of those schools and the work that they do are becoming more one than ever," Bedrosian said.
If this job doesn't come through, he said, there's plenty of work left to do at Gloucester High School.
