Coast Guard airlifts man from charter fishing boat

U.S. Coast Guard crews airlifted a 51-year-old man in need of medical assistance from a charter fishing boat 18 miles east of Gloucester on Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector Boston received a report of a man experiencing "heart attack symptoms" while fishing aboard the Yankee Clipper at 10 a.m.

A motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Gloucester transported Gloucester Fire and Rescue crews to the vessel to help the man at 11:14 a.m., Coast Guard officials said.

Shortly after, the ailing man was hoisted to a Jayhawk rescue helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was reportedly in stable condition.

The 75-foot Yankee Clipper is part of Gloucester's Yankee Fleet and used for whale watching, chartered fishing, and sightseeing tours.

The Coast Guard declined to release the man's identity, and a spokeswoman at Yankee Fleet said Monday afternoon the company could not release any more information regarding the incident.
