BEVERLY — John E. “Jack” Vickery, 81, longtime resident of Victor Avenue, Beverly, and husband of Joyce A. (Parady) Vickery, died Monday, October 22, 2012, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following his long illness.
Born in Cambridge August 16, 1931, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Butte) Vickery, he was raised in Cambridge where he attended public schools. Following high school he served during WWII.
Married 1950 in Gloucester the Vickerys made their home in Gloucester for several years, Beverly then Ipswich where they raised their family and in 1984 back to Victor Avenue, Beverly. For twenty-five of these years he was employed as a salesman and agency manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co, district manager for ten years at the John E. Cain Snack, Co. in Cambridge, ten years as the owner and operator of the Willow-Rest Village Market in Gloucester and most recently he was employed by the Mass. Highway Dept, District Four, Arlington as an account.
He was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church where he for many years he served as an usher and was both a member and employee of the Beverly Senior Center where he dispatched buses and gave rides to those who were home bound.
“Jack” will be remembered by many for his charisma and humor. His greatest joy was caring for his loving wife and being with his close family. He also enjoyed house projects and yard work.
I addition to his wife of 62 years he is survived by two sons, John P. Vickery and his wife Janet of Ipswich, David M. Vickery and his wife Jennifer of Ipswich; a daughter, Nancy E. Popick and her husband Patrick of CO; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Vickery and his wife Ramona of FL, Walter A. Vickery and his companion Carol of Manchester-by-the-Sea; a sister Ann Trupiano and her husband Joseph of Beverly and many nephews and nieces. He was the father of the late Linda J. Bernard, formerly of Ipswich. He was also predeceased by his siblings Charles Vickery, James Vickery, William Vickery and Alice Ross.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours are Thursday, October 25, from 4 to 8 pm at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. His funeral will be held 10 am Friday, October 26, at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass at 11 am in Our Lady of Hope Church, 1 Pineswamp Rd., Ipswich. Interment will be in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
