Eve A. (Porter) Duncan, 81, of Gloucester, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 13, 1930, daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Downing) Porter.
She was a graduate of Western Connecticut State College, receiving her Masters degree in English Literature.
Eve had a dream and she made it come true by starting her own business in 1982, The Purple Balloon Company, retiring in 2001.
She enjoyed reading, writing, painting and writing poetry. She even wrote poetry professionally.
Eve was very passionate about living in Gloucester. She just loved it here.
She also loved the many fine people she met in her role as The Purple Balloon Lady.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her former husband and caregiver, Douglas Duncan of Gloucester; 2 sons, John and Brian Bartas; her daughter, Gilean Bartas; 8 grandchildren and two sisters, Lady Julia MacKenzie of Ross-shire, Scotland and Lady Gilean Mackenzie of London, England.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 11:30 a.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 50 Middle Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held privately.
