Gloucester — Paul J. Cardone, Sr., 81, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary E. “Susie” (Kadlick) Cardone, who died in December 1982. Born in Boston on January 21, 1931, he was the son of the late Mario and Angelina (Gambuzza) Cardone.
Paul grew up in the North End of Boston until he married and moved to Medford. He then came to Gloucester with his family in 1958. Paul was a talented tiler and plasterer. He remodeled homes along the East Coast from Maine to Florida. He was always there with a helping hand and a laugh even for those as far away as Nevada, Hawaii or Italy.
He served in the Air Force National Guard Reserves. His most precious times were those spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed their presence at the family home on Fort Square. Paul was an innovative and entertaining chef, whipping up meals seemingly out of thin air, on land or at sea. Sunday dinners were always a special event at the Cardone home, every chair in the house was usually filled; the little ones were even seated on the floor around the TV eating spaghetti and meatballs. It was an all day affair that finished with the Sunday movie of the week. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by seven children, Angela, wife of Harvey Smith, Marianne Cardone, Stephanie Cardone, Irene, wife of Clayton Sova, Rosetta, wife of Kevin Chipperini, Victoria, wife of Frank Souza and Steven, husband of Laura (Yakubowskas) Cardone; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosetta Rossi and Irene Pasto; two brothers, Victor Cardone and his wife, Bunni and Sebastian Cardone and his wife, Patricia and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sons, Paul J. Cardone, Jr. and Mario P. Cardone and a brother, Fernando Cardone.
