Gloucester, MA — Frederick G. Horne, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, August 6, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Sandra (Runsala) Horne, he was married to the love of his life for 57 years.
Born in Gloucester on October 3, he was the son of the late Archibald and Grace Horne. Fred was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1949.
Fred attended Bentley College. He trained as a machinist with Murmac Manufacturing and then worked for over 30 years at Gloucester Engineering until he retired. Fred enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and was a lifelong Celtics fan. He was also a lifetime member of the Gloucester Elks Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Allison Emerson of Louisiana, Kelley Spada of Louisiana and her husband, Darren, Andrew Horne of Gloucester and his wife, Toni Frontiero Horne; grandchildren, Julia Horne of Louisiana, Jason Horne of Rockport, Abigayle Spada of Louisiana, and Kristi Pratt of Gloucester. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Sally Thompson and her husband, Lester, of California, and Rose Horne of Gloucester; two brothers, William Horne and his wife, Carole, of Gloucester, David Horne and his wife, Mary Ann, of Gloucester; a brother-in-law, William Hale of Rockport; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by a son, Mark; sisters, Mary Faye Knipe and Patricia Hale; and brothers, Robert, Richard, and Donald.
ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private burial will be held at a later date.
