Essex — Manuel S. Santana Jr., 65, of Essex, formerly of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Beverly. Born in Beverly on October 15, 1947, he was the son of Elva P. (Silveira) Santana of Gloucester and the late, Manuel S. Santana Sr.
Manny had attended school in Gloucester. For many years, Manny worked at Miles River in Essex as a boat mechanic and later owned and operated Barge Marine in Essex. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and taking many trips to Ireland with his companion, Gretta.
In addition to his mother Elva, he is survived by his companion of 26 years, Gretta Joseph of Essex; cousins, Richard McCormack, Kathleen (McCormack) Brancaleone of Gloucester, Michael McCormack of Florida; and his devoted Beagle “Howie.” In addition to his father Manuel, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Manuel and Priscilla (Mitchell) Silveira and paternal grandparents, Salvador and Maria Santana.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Friday, January 25 at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
