William D. Buckley Jr., 86

Gloucester, MA — William D. “Billy” Buckley Jr., of Gloucester, husband of Dorothy C. (Dagle) Buckley, passed away peacefully at Addison Gilbert Hospital on June 29.

Billy was born in Gloucester on February 17, 1927, and was the son of the late J. Laura and William D. Buckley, Sr. He was a 1945 graduate of Gloucester High School and joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. When he returned, Billy dated Dorothy who became his beautiful wife of 63 years. He worked for many years at Gloucester Engineering. Billy was a lifetime member of the Gloucester Elks, planned many GHS class reunions, was a former member of the GHS Booster’s Club, and was an active member at the YMCA. He was an avid fan of GHS and New England professional sports. In addition, Billy and Dot enjoyed the local beaches and loved to dance and travel.

Billy is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Gloucester; his son, Bruce Buckley and his wife, Marie of Mansfield; daughters, Susan Wood of Gloucester, Christine Buckley of Salem, Jane Cahill and her husband, Stephen of Gloucester, and Anne McKinney and her husband, William of Cambridge; grandchildren, Kristin, Jimmy and Colleen Wood, Peter, Kevin, Daniel and Annalies Buckley, Heather Ciolino and her fiancé, Lars Muelle, Abigayle and Brett Cahill, and Seth and Caleb McKinney; and great-granddaughter, Bayla Buckley.

He was predeceased by his brother, John “Jack” Buckley of Gloucester.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of Billy’s caregivers.

ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Friday, July 5, at 11 a.m.

Visiting hours will precede the Mass on Friday in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
