The Villages, Fla. — Esther (Whitaker) Newell, wife of the late William Newell, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage, died at Cornerstone Hospice surrounded by her family. Born in Rockport, she was the daughter of Ernest and Bertha (Whitten) Whitaker.
She graduated from Rockport High School in 1937 and spent most her life there until retiring from Gorton's of Gloucester. She then moved to the Villages where she enjoyed the active lifestyle of golf, bowling, swimming, theater, social clubs and traveling.
She is survived by her sons, William Newell and wife, Cindy of Kenova W.V.., Dana Newell and wife, Cindy of the Villages Fla. and her daughters, Carol Pallazola and husband, Joseph of San Diego Calif., Linda Dennis and husband, Lloyd of The Villages. She was also the loving grandmother to six and the great-grandmother to ten. She is also survived by a brother, Walter Whitaker and wife, Ruth of Maine. She will be remembered for her generosity and love of family and friends.
