Mary E. Parsons, 58

Gloucester — Mary E Parsons (Scola), 58, of Gloucester passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, November 29, 2012.

Mary was born on June 24, 1954 in Gloucester, the daughter of the late Clarence Parsons Jr. and Dorothy (Brackett) Parsons. She was the youngest of six siblings. Mary was a lifelong resident of Gloucester. A well- known face, whether befriending the friendless on a park bench on Main Street, or at the local Pace program where she spent her time visiting with others. Mary had a big heart, and was someone who loved to help others. Whether they were family, friends, or strangers, she would help anyway she could. She would be a shoulder to lean on or an ear if you needed to talk. Mary also had a soft spot for animals including her cat Emmitt. She spent many hours at her beloved Dunkin Donuts on Main St. The sight of her "Doing the Cape Ann 500" in her PT Cruiser will be a sight to be missed.

Mary worked at the Last Stop Variety in East Gloucester where she got to do what she was most passionate about, baking and cooking including her families favorite her amazing apple pie. She loved getting up early and working in the kitchen making different creations. She also loved talking to people and getting to know the regular customers. Mary enjoyed baking with her grandchildren although she would never share her special ingredient in her apple pie. They truly loved baking Christmas cookies and decorating them with her. Another of Mary’s favorite pastimes was playing scrabble with anyone she could find willing to be victimized; she rarely lost. Mary found great pleasure in visiting yard sales and going on antiquing missions. She could be found on most Sundays at Todd’s Farm in Rowley, selling her treasures and finding more.

Mary is survived by her three children, Joanne Scola and her fiancé, Mark Mitchell Sr. of Gloucester, Nancy Scola of Tannersville, N.Y., and Sebastian Scola and his wife, Nicole of North Reading. She had seven grandchildren she adored, Samantha Christo and her husband, Anthony, Mark Mitchell Jr., Noah Scola, Jordan Mitchell all of Gloucester, Iris Carter and Autumn Carter of Shandaken, N.Y., three great-grandchildren, Lucas Urbanski, Caleb and Gabriella Christo all of Gloucester; two sisters, Dorothy Randazza of Gloucester and Elaine Cox of St. Louis. She had a special lifelong friend, Sheila DiMaria, and her former husband, Paul Scola with whom she remained close in recent years. She will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Nancy Pendergrast, and two brothers, Jeffrey C. Parsons and Herman G. Parsons.
