Jeanne Ann (Davis) Wood, 84, of Gloucester, died Thursday, February 2, 2012, following a brief illness.
She was born in Gloucester on December 18, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Daniel K. and Dorothy (Morris) Davis. She was a life-long resident of Gloucester. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1945. She and her high school girlfriends remained close and loyal friends over her lifetime and met for "club" every other week for 68 years.
In 1948, she flew to Alaska to marry the love of her life, William G. Wood, a Rockport resident stationed in Anchorage with the US Air Force. They were married for 58 years. Bill predeceased her in October, 2006.
Jeanne lived for her summers on Good Harbor Beach with her children and friends, and on the Annisquam River and Ipswich Bay with her husband on the "Yukon Gal," which Bill aptly named after Jeanne.
Jeanne is survived by her four children, William G. Wood Jr. and his fiancé Pam Wright of Seabrook, N.H., Dona K. Hobin and her husband Ronald of Wakefield, Timothy R. Wood and his wife Megara of Gloucester, and Natalie J. Wood of New York City; two brothers, Gerald and his wife Carlie, and Lawrence and his wife Doris; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Humphrey and her husband Ellsworth of Peabody; and many nieces and nephews. Jeanne was also the extremely proud grandmother of Tracy Ann Wood. She was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel K. and his wife Kathryn, and John and his wife Leona.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester The burial will be held in Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
