NEW PORTLAND, Maine — Mary P. Trafton Abell passed Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 from a brief and courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 56, with her husband of 38 years by her side.
She was the beloved wife of Stephen D. Abell, Sr. of New Portland, Maine. Loving mother of Stephen D. Abell, Jr. of Rockport, and U.S.M.C Staff Sergeant Brian W. Abell, stationed in Beaufort, S.C. Cherished grandmother of Emily Hope Abell of Illinois, Tyler Scott Abell of Rockport, Sean Thomas Abell of Rockport, and Ella Abell of Beaufort South Carolina. Adored mother-in-law of Kathryn E. Abell of Rockport, and Shawnna Abell of Beaufort, S.C.
She is also survived by her father, Willard C. Trafton, mother, Patricia Trafton, her sister, Vencie Anderson and her husband Glenn Anderson, sister, Virginia Trafton, and brothers, Willard Trafton and Stephen Trafton, all of Rockport. She was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Morse of Beverly. In addition, she leaves behind an extended family of nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated Rockport High School in 1973. She spent most of her youth working on the local horse farms and competing in riding competitions where she received many trophies and awards. In her adult life, she worked as a waitress and as a loving homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother and very loving grandmother.
She enjoyed raising Beagles and working on the Farm in New Portland, Maine, a special place she called her home. Many hours were spent working in the gardens and preparing canned goods for winter. She enjoyed long rides with her husband and finding that special spot to have a meal. She wilt be greatly missed by all that met her and will remain in our loving hearts.
ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held at the Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rockport Firemen's Association relief account or the Rockport American Legion Post 98 Veterans Day outing fund.
