Annabelle E. (Orr) Hale, 87

Rockport, MA — Annabelle E. (Orr) Hale 87, wife of the late William A. Hale, passed away peacefully at home in Rockport on Sunday, April 14, 2013, following an extended illness.

Annabelle was born in Rockport, the daughter of late Stephen R. Orr and Mary I. (Sheehan) Orr. During her youth she lived in many places in New England and also in New Orleans. As a child she attended various Catholic schools and later graduated from Rockport High School. She went on to work for the Boston & Maine Railroad as a comptometer operator, where she continued to work until she and her husband Bill started a family after he got out of the service. Raising their six children then became her focus.

She enjoyed bowling where she and her friends bowled on the ladies leagues at the Cape Ann Bowling Alleys. Sewing and her numerous gardens also kept her very busy. She and her family enjoyed many camping trips to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. After her family had grown, she went to work at the Sea Shell Restaurant in Rockport, which she enjoyed very much. She and Bill enjoyed their many trips to New Hampshire and their travels to Florida and Hawaii.

Annabelle leaves behind her two daughters, Alicia H. Garlick and husband, Lester, of Rockport, and Adele M. Barratt and husband, Eugene, of Gloucester; four sons, Russell A. Hale and wife, Ellen, of Rockport, Ronald A. Hale and wife, Cindy, of Pigeon Cove, Robert C. Hale and wife, Annette, of Rockport and Thomas E. Hale and wife, Tamra, of Gloucester.

She also leaves her grandchildren, Lester “Jakey” and Billy Garlick, James R. Balestraci, Alexander R. Hale, Bradley R. Hale, Brianne Hale, Stephen R. Hale, Krystal Hale, Anthony Hale, Heather Hale, Brian T. Hale as well as seven great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Annabelle was predeceased by her husband Bill; grandson, Louis J. Balestraci; sister, Marie Thibodéau and brother, Stephen R. Orr, whose passing all left a void in her heart.

ARRANGEMENTS: At the request of Annabelle, Services will be private. Donations may be made in her memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid Association, 4 Paws Ln., Gloucester, MA; or to Elder Service Plan of the North Shore (Pace Program of Gloucester), 29A Emerson Ave., Gloucester, MA, 01930.
