GLOUCESTER — Joseph H. Simon Jr., 83, of Gloucester, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester.
Joe was born in Gloucester on Jan. 22, 1927, the son of the late Mary (Moses) and Joseph H. Simon Sr.
He proudly served during World War II in the United States Army. When he returned home, he went back to work for Seafood Kitchens, based here in Gloucester and remained there for 35 years. Watching sports and listening to his favorite music of the 50s, was one of his favorite pastimes. Sitting with his dear friend Paul Virgilio at McPherson Park, they enjoyed Frank Sinatra and Jerry Vale, along with other artists. Joe lived at McPherson Park for 20 years. His charisma and outgoing personality brought him the title of President of their social committee. Bingo at Holy Family Parish, as well as out of town games and playing cards with his friends rounded out his enjoyment in life. He was a past member of the Gloucester Amvets Post 32 and the Old Lebanon Club in Gloucester.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Simon and his wife Sandra of Gloucester, Thomas and Stephen Simon; brothers and sisters, David Simon, Sally Unis, Edward and his wife Dot Simon, Cecelia Selig and her husband Earl and Anna Carrasco and her husband Albert, all of Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with Joe's wishes there will be no visiting hours and services and burial will be held privately.
