Rockport, MA — Paul F. Sargent, 97, of Rockport, passed away on the morning of Monday, January 28, 2013, in the Den Mar Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Rockport.

Paul was born in Rockport, MA, on October 28, 1915, the son of the late George W. and Olga R. (Steinbacher) Sargent.

He graduated from Rockport High School with the Class of 1933 and went on to graduate from Boston University. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1941 and served as a Chief Yeoman aboard the U.S.S. Monadnock. He spent most of his life as a resident of Rockport. Paul was active in a variety of endeavors, including being a member for over fifty years in the Improved Order of Red Men, involved in the Rockport Rights of Way Committee, belonged to the Rockport American Legion, Edward Peterson Post Number 98 and a longtime member of The First Congregational Church in Rockport. He had enjoyed gardening and traveling around the world.

He is survived by a niece and nephews and several good friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held in Locust Grove Cemetery, Lanesville, on Thursday, February 7th at 11a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. In keeping with Paul’s wishes, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.
